The race for top four in Serie A took another interesting twist this evening after Milan fell 2-1 to Fiorentina at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

Commemorating five years since the sudden passing of captain Davide Astori, Vincenzo Italiano’s men put in arguably their best performance of the season. La Viola took the lead early in the second half when Nico Gonzalez buried a penalty his side were awarded after Fikayo Tomori brought down Jonathan Ikoné in the area.

Striker Luka Jovic put the result out of reach for the Rossoneri in the final minutes when he headed home a perfectly delivered cross from Dodo.

Theo Hernandez added a consolation goal for the visitors in the final seconds, snapping their four-match winning streak.

Asked about his late assist, the Brazilian applauded his team’s performance and insisted they’re capable of competing against the league’s best.

“We have very strong players,” Dodo told DAZN. “We had a very good performance, we can play against anyone: MIlan, Inter, or Juventus, we can do it.”

“We knew today would be difficult but all we thought about this week was this game because we knew we could win.”

“The manager urged us throughout the week to give everything we could and we did so. My assist? I’m very happy with it, I thought it was a really good delivery to Luka.”

“The manager always asks me to give more assists which is why I went to hug him after the goal. I finally fulfilled his request.”

Finally, “He constantly reminds me I’m a strong player capable of more which is why he’s always asking me to give more. We’re both happy with tonight.”
